Bass was first brought to South African waters in 1927 when 45 largemouth bass fingerlings arrived in Cape Town. 10 years later 29 smallmouth bass fingerlings arrived in the country. They then quickly spread all over the country. You can now almost find them in any dam in South Africa. For bass fishing enthusiasts this is great news with so much world class bass angling spots scattered throughout the country. Bass fishing in South Africa works on the catch and release basis, so always be sure to return all bass caught to make sure you grandchildren will also be able to enjoy bass fishing.
